Then a wee trickle started near the end of January. Suddenly the site just exploded in the first week of February. The site is now working as I had indended...a place for all of you to meet and re-aquaint yourselves. It has become wildly successful, and as long as you keep visiting and sharing your past in Shilo I will keep the site open. This is our place...for us alone...for no one else shares such a unique experience as we do. Shilo is a microcosm that no one can understand if they have not lived there. It is insulated from the crime and anonymity so rampant in the cities....a safe place to grow up. If I was to return to Winnipeg now, much of it would be unrecognizable. Shilo, on the other hand, is a rather timeless place and a lot of your old haunts are still there.
In a sky only as sunny and blue as it can get in Manitoba, I see three Hercules aircraft pass overhead. In the distance over the fields and through the heat haze I see the first parachutes blossom, and I know my father is among those flowers drifting slowly to earth. One day a pair of Voodoo jet fighters fly over at roof top level and the windows of the house rattle so hard I think they will shatter. In the distance can always be heard the sounds of heavy guns and the occasional Honest John rocket whooshing down range.
In summer the air is thick with dragonflies and you can almost always smell fresh cut sweet grass if the wind isn't blowing from the pig farm. In the fall there are loads of ducks and grouse and prairie chickens, and you can smell burning leaves. You could go fishing any time you wanted and come home with your limit in Walleye. That is Shilo folks...and where we grew up together.
The job isn't done. It just got started.
Oh the pain....the agoonie!
As the creator of this site, I am solely responsible for the content. If you have complaints, questions, suggestions or large amounts of disposable cash in small unmarked bills there are a number of ways you can contact me. Some are near instantaneous because I almost live on line. The link below in blue is my e-mail, but you can also use:
A walk on the weird side.
This all started because of the"Classmates" and "Gradfinder" rip offs. I'll not dwell on that any more. We are rapidly building a place on the net that we can call our very own, and each of you is helping me to do that. Daily I get e-mail....lots of it. There are new names, events and pictures. As time and space allow I will integrate these into the site. You must remember though that you cannot relax and hope others will do the work. You need to contribute your memories in pictures and words. Just as important is that you continue to make sure that everyone you knew from Shilo hears about this site.
I never thought this would be so much work....but really I don't mind. I have enough time on my hands to build something pretty substantial rather quickly. The only thing that really concerns me is who is going to pay for all this beer JIM? The site is changing on a daily basis now. If ya weren't here yesterday...ya missed it! Watch the bulletin board as stuff is starting to come in daily now. Also, on the guest book page if you wish to view the entries without putting another entry in, a link is given so you can do that.
This site is banner free. Initially when it was small I paid for that service on top of paying for the beer too. I started posting so much stuff the site grew bigger than I had anticipated and we ran out of room. I simply couldn't afford the cost of a site upgrade and was really stuck. Faye Linseman (nee: Helgason) found out about this and got riled up enough about at it to do something about it, so she set up a trust fund and solicited visitors for donations. All of you came through in heroic fashion and this is now a Master Web Site. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart!
Donations will need to continue if this site is to remain on line. If you feel you can make a small contribution, please contact Faye Linseman. The help is greatly appreciated.

Well, this is only for the brave. Artists are crazy, but then you already knew that about me. Some things never change. It's my art and poetry and that of a few very talented friends I know. Have a look. Just remember that I am a speed bump on the road to good mental health.
